Something That Happened In School
It was just like every other Thursday. Actually, Thursday is the best day of the whole week because they have my favourite subjects like PE Theory and Design and Technology. Most of the school day had already passed and we were having our last period of the day, PE Theory.
Miss Sheika was teaching the class about different methods of training and it was really engaging and interesting as there are many sporty people in our class(like me)! All of a sudden, there was a ear-piercing siren that seemed to come from everywhere. The whole class gave a long moan as we knew what was happening. It was the annual fire drill that the school had been preparing us since the start of school. After receiving the instructions from the principal on where the fire had broken out, we all lined up outside in an 'orderly' manner. Thankfully our 'responsible' monitor, Gareth, knew which staircase we were supposed to take to the assembly area which was the field. Although we had done this before a year ago, we were still quite excited.
When we reached the field, we were given a place to sit down. The sun was scorching and we were all really irritated as school was going to be dismissed soon. Everyone was involved in the drill including the cleaners and librarians. It was quite a funny sight. I bet they were as irritated as us! It was a first time experience for the Secondary ones and it was really assuring to see them being so prepared and ready. Soon, our form teacher took our attendance and we were dismissed class by class.
We immediately rushed back to class, packed our bags and left for home. Although this fire drill exercise happens only once a year, we Victorians can learn alot from it. Through this exercise, we are made to be prepared and alert always. Under the watchful eye of the school staff and teachers, we made this fire drill a really good one in many years. I hope that if there is any emergency that occurs both inside and outside of school, we will always be calm and be brave. That is truly what every Victorian should be. Moogalia!
